Brake pads for Cleveland System

Post by R985wasp »

Does anyone know the best place to purchase replacement brake pads (just the pads and rivets) for the mechanical Cleveland system?

Got mine from wagaero in 1992 and still going strong, but do not use them
much. 650 hrs. The last cat shows them for about $35.00 each and that
might be shoe, 2 for each wheel.

You might try the Short Wing Piper fokes. The Tri Pacer uses them.

Just an FYI...the new pads are around $33 each from Univair. I hardly ever use the brakes (just for run up) but after restoration I'm having a hell of a time getting them to hold. I've done everything to them adjustment wise (including making new wear pads for the shoes) so I'm taking the advice given this month in the EAA Vintage Airplane mag. It says that there is only .0025 allowable wear clearance on the drum, so if the brakes are fading it is advisable to replace the pads. So, we'll see what happens.
