wing spar AD inspection holes

Post by cubberus2 »

I'm sure this has been addressed but when I did a search for 'wing spar AD' I got 36 pages of messages.Anyway, the way I read the AD it does not apply to my 65 hp 7AC, only to horsepower of 90+. My take is that I have a one-time inspection and do not have to open up the gazillion inspection holes for inspection plates that are required on higher horsepower models. My IA believes that I have to open up all those holes and get inspection plates for the next annual. This is a new rebuild with new spars, etc. a all-new wing. Dave,
Your take would be my take and my IA would also agree. Especially with new spars and a complete wing rebuild. I suppose someone could make the point you can't really inspect all of the spars unless you completely open the wing up, but there are places where known problems have occurred: i.e. at the lift strut reenforcing plates and the butt end, etc and usually a ground loop or some kind of overstress has to occur before there's even a problem there. There has to be some common sense as some of the original spars are still flying with no problem.

I would always do a reasonable inspection, especially outboard if there has been a ground-loop.

Otherwise the wood gets stronger with age so enjoy!
