You shoulda come down to the Thomasville, GA fly-in this weekend. There were a dozen or more Aeroncas there, plus plenty of other rag and tube classics. One guy in a white/blue Champ was giving ride after ride on Saturday.

I was out checking Harris County and Roosevelt Muni. I'm really spoiled in Oklahoma; around here these airports are dead. In fact when I went to Skyline Aviation at the Columbus Airport I was treated like an outsider. I told the lady I needed to talk to someone about getting checked out in a 150. She told me I had to have a pilot license first. WOW then I asked if I could walk around the hangers and just talk to other pilots and she told me she that area was controlled and I couldn't go out there.
Is it any wonder aviation is dying?

No kidding! Find yourself a nice airport out of town with a bunch of loafers sitting around and the coffee pot is on. I feel the same way about most museums....look but don't touch!! I like the Centex one in San Marcos, Texas. Being a 'nuts and bolts guy' I like to see what makes things tick and the workers there are always willing to let me check out the P-39 or the B25 and tell me what's going on. If I lived there for more than a month out of the year, I'd be volunteering there.

KCSG has pretensions of grandeur. Thanks Doug, think I'll have to head up there on veterans day. Also, I made contact with the La Grange (KLGC) EAA chapter 1350 and I'm headed there tonight for some hangar flying.

Jacob at AirVentures out of La Grange (KLGC) Georgia has been a real joy to get to know. I have flown the dilapidated C152 around the patch a couple times just to keep the night sweats and flying withdrawals to a minimum.
After seeing a flyer at the airport for glider tow pilots I threw my name in the hat. Wow, that is a strange crew with a total “Country Club – Jet Pilot” mentality. After finally getting a hold of the president of Southern Eagles Soaring, La Grange, Georgia he was quick to point out the club did not pay pilots. So I responded with I just want to fly the Pawnee for fun, he then said I would need tailwheel experience so I told him I had around 350 hours, then he said I would need quite a bit of recent hours so I told him I had 580 over that past couple years. He responded with,” it appears you are qualified” imagine my excitement and I didn’t even have to surrender my first born or take a full body cavity search.
I started getting excited..............then he slammed me with, “pay the $750 membership and well get you on the insurance and start you on some tow training”.

You would think that they would waive that for tow pilots, as they are not going to be soaring. Oh well, wait until there is no one to tow and it may happen still.

I just want to fly and the Pawnee reminds me of my childhood when my Dad used a Pawnee to crop dust.
