Aeronca 7FC thoughts,,,,
Hey guys,, long story short,, I am 29 years old and am looking into a light sport to get my sport pilot license in ,, I have flown alot over time in 150's 172's,,, etc,, but I want I light sport and I have talked and heard that the champs are great planes etc, etc,, ,, I was wondering what you guys think of a Tri gear 7FC,, I am by no means opposed to getting a taildragger 7AC etc, etc,, but there is a guy that has a 7FC for sale at a great price near me,, just wondering the thoughts on it,, goods bads, or whatever,, thanks.

The FC does not fit in the light sport the gross weight is over 1320 pounds. It is 1450 pounds.
I know I have one BUT it was made into a real airplane years ago (tailwheel)

Re: Aeronca 7FC thoughts,,,,
I like your thought process the 7FC in my humble opinion is the most underrated Airplane on the planet. I’m a little spoiled since that’s what I fly occasionally. However, as already mentioned it’s not sport pilot eligible. My situation was somewhat similar to yours in that when I got my sport pilot license in a Champ I had several hours in a C-150 but no license or solo. Fast forward to now (5 years) and I’m a Private Pilot only because the 7FC is not SP legal. I actually used the 7FC to take my PP check ride with 400 hours experience. So what I’m saying is I would still be flying Champs and Chiefs as a SP if the Tri-Champ hadn’t come along.
I’M A BETTER PILOT TODAY BECAUSE I LEARNED TO FLY UNDERPOWERED TAILWHEEL AERONCAS!
Get the 7FC and fly it around as a student if that’s what is affordable and what’s available. Take it from me Aviation Opportunities don’t knock often.

Never buy a plane because of price. Decide what make and model is best for you, then find the best one you can afford. That said, it's always nice to be able to look at a local plane. You can talk to the person who actually worked on it and look through the logbooks yourself. Old planes have long histories so don't worry about accidents as long as the repairs were done correctly. When you find your plane remember that a pre-buy inspection should be the same as an annual inspection and get it in writing.

I understand,, I am not buying it because it is cheap priced,, but I do understand your thinking,, I wasn't aware of the weight difference,, , I would love a 150 or cherokee 140,, but my buds around my community and our local airport have ultralights, taylorcrafts, etc, etc,, I was looking something to go airport hopping and just putt'ing around with them, I have researched and I like the champs interior room,, but I was just curious on the 7FC ,, it seemed unique,, but I guess I will look a 7ac still then,, I want something I can get my light sport first,, then take care of my private later if I want,, but I would love to fine a C85 champ or something,,
