Lake of Oil

Post by Rod »

The entire world consumption of oil is 80,000,000 bbl/day.
That seems like a lot so I thought I would do some math to try and gain some perspective.

Turns out that this is enough oil to fill a one square mile lake to a depth of 16 feet!
Every single day!

We have needed to ween ourselves off of petro products for years IMHO.

There is a good reason why I have solar panels in my back yard and am working on installing wind generators at some property I have in the near future. Sorry but we are just plain stupid to not be harnessing wind and solar power where its possible.

Every gallon we save is a gallon we can use on our Aeronca's or other things we need or want.

Joe, a barrel of crude oil (42 US Gallons) will make about 20 gallons of gasoline. About two for one ratio.

West Texas Intermediate crude for March delivery closed at US$89.29 a barrel on Friday.
Brent North Sea crude for March delivery closed at US$102.09 a barrel on Friday.

Nationwide AVGAS 100LL prices range from a high of $9.23 to a low of $3.29, with an average of $5.01 a gallon (survey of 3515 FBOs). These prices included local and federal taxes.

Fuel for our Aeronca airplanes is going to go up. How would $200 a barrel oil impact your flying?

I worked for local aerospace company that converted several vacant fabric mills, that produced their own electricity from the rivers with hydro-generators. The electricity was sold to regional energy companies, the energy companies got greedy and had bills passed in the state to lower monetary value of the power produced!

Let's see, :?: Make use of vacant mills that it's trade went to china!! Produce energy from natural resources!!! Provide jobs to the individuals that lost their job from the trades that moved to china! And the "greed of the power company" won the favor of the state.

Maybe I'm upset because that revenue funded the Aerospace company!

When the weather's nice I usually tell my wife I'm headed to the airport to use up my fair share of petrolium products. I should worry at 4 gallons an hour when Al "Bore" and the rest are flying around in their Gulf Streams. Or the presidents (past and present) flying somewhere in the their 747's to make a political speech or fundraiser.
