Intercom jack fix

I just bought a second headset to use with my Sigtronics Transcom II (SPO-22). One of the two mike jacks produces off-and-on contact along with some scratch. Both headsets work fine. I haven't opened up the intercom yet, but I'd like to think I could get in there and push the contact tabs closer to the center of the jack hole so the plug would make better contact. Does anyone know of a quick fix for this problem or the best (and cheapest) place to buy a replacement jack? Apparently, Sigtronics doesn't sell them.

Ron,

Have you tried taking some Steel Wool to the plugs? Brass will tarnish and I have seen the "scratch" and intermittent connection that you might be talking about. Try cleaning the plugs till they are bright brass first.

If you still have a problem, the guys at Softcomm have been great to me regarding selling me parts. They would have the jack for the mike, which is a little smaller than the standard 1/4 type. Any Avionics shop should also have them.

Thanks Bob, your steel-wool fix worked. The plugs on the headset were indeed tarnished but now they're bright brass and working fine. There's no more scratch. Thanks again, Ron.
