You should have seen the C-2 and C-3 flying together. Really good stuff!
We stayed at the Drury Inn this trip. Very, very nice. Morning and evening meal included with the room. We will be going back. Maybe we can get more Aeronca folks there next time.
The slickest Champ I have ever seen. Very detailed.
Too bad I missed it ( ) but hope to see some of the Aeronca folks at Oshkosh.
Basically got bummed out on the departure weather although some of the gang made it.

I am shocked at your poor camera skills! When you were taking a picture of my multicolored Scout, you accidentally got that yellow Champ in the way. All you can see is my checkerboard rudder.
The green and cream Champ that you have pictured has some sentimental interest to me. It was the first airplane that I owned, actually a 1/5 partnership. My share was $150, so the Champ had been bought for $750. My first logged flight was in that plane on June 28th, 1965. I soloed it on September 25th of that year, six days after my 16th birthday. Too much rain that fall had left our grass strip too wet for me to solo on my birthday. We sold the Champ on November 4th; I had logged just about 20 hours on it. I then got into another 5 way partnership in another Champ, N84619.
Now, 47 years later I'm still flying around SE Iowa in a Champ. They've gotten a lot more expensive and a bit smaller on the inside than I remember. Also, 84149 looks a whole lot nicer now than it did when I owned it.

Noted that the first picture is stencled "L16B" but has the Champ style windows on it. I'm wondering if it's actually a L16B or just a 7 series painted up like one. The reason I'm asking is I have a picture of my L16A when the CAP owned it way back in the late 50's or early 60's and it has a C85 fuel injected engine which was common for the "L" series but also has a headliner and Champ style windows. When I bought it several years ago it had all the greenhouse hardware and no Champ wooden frames. Go figure.....??? All the CAP records are missing and and the CD is no help either. I know it's always been a L16 though as I have the military record card and a document transferring it from the military to the CAP. I'm suspecting the CAP probably installed the Champ style windows at one time along with a headliner but kept the original L16 greenhouse hardware.
