Champ fuselage bulkheads

I'm restoring my 1946 Champ 7AC/7BCM. I need to cut new plywood fuselage bulkheads. Does anyone know of a source for full size patterns for those?

Wag, univair and spruce all sell the finished product. If you want to make your own and don't have originals to copy, find the part number(s) and get a copy of the aeronca drawing CD. They should be on the disc.

Looks like its all online now... Todd use to offer all the available drawings, service letters, 337's, and manuals on a DVD, but has switched it over to an online format. You can buy individual documents, or join the museum for $35(?) and have unlimited access.

I hope he offers the DVD again, it was handy for offline research at the shop/hangar.

It looks like the aeroncamuseum.org site has a lot of broken links and very little information. I wasn't able to locate the CD or any meaningful information that was not available in the public domain. I hope Todd can get the site together because it appears he has a good vision of what to include when its functioning.

Asked the Museum about the CD ROM and received the following. $35 to join and free download of all the documents seems like a pretty reasonable price.


The CD you are referring to only had drawings. That CD is no longer available. The online Museum archive actually has much more information than the CD ROM had. The online archive has more drawings, plus all the Service Letters, Helps & Hints, and the TC data sheets. As a member, you can access all those documents for free. Simply using the search tool for each document type and download the documents you want.

You and everyone else should know that if anyone ever needs any blueprints that all they have to do is email myself or any other National Aeronca Assoc board of directors member with the blueprint number and we will send them out to you free of charge. Been doing this for years and its not changing. Only difference is that we do not put out a DVD of the collection for sale, its free. One plus is that the quality of our blueprints is usually just a bit better...

When I restored my Champ, I made paper patterns from the drawings. If you look in the WagAero catelog, the part number for an Aeronca part is also the drawing number. For example the first listed 7AC bulkhead in the catalog is on drawing 4-555. One thing to be aware of is that some of the scanned drawings have stretched and shrunk a bit over the years. You should check the actual dimensions versus the indicated dimensions. You may need to scale a part up or down a bit. You may also have to adjust the notch for the stringer to fit tightly fit your strings.

And here is another hint. I have the CD and some of the blueprints are HUGE. But, if you check around, you may find a company that produces blueprints. I found one in nearby Rockford, IL, called them and found out that I could email the blueprint. (As I recall, it is a PDF file). The company got the email and had printed the blueprint within 1/2 an hour in its original large size format. Cost was very reasonable.

Any good Kinko's or the like can also make blueprints full size. Price was reasonable... Also Costco might be able to make them...

Check into a place that does blueprints. Kinkos was three times as expensive. Costco didn't have the big format copier. Call a local builder or architect and see where they get their copies done.

The newest version of Adobe reader has a print feature that permits printing large documents in "poster" mode. If you have the time and a supply of scotch tape, you can print out the large drawings on standard size paper and tape them together as needed.
