Excellent newspaper article about the "City of Yuma" Sedan!

Post by joea »

Opened up our local newspaper and found an article on the FRONT page about the "City of Yuma" Aeronca Sedan!

Then in the back TWO pages of info on this, so a great article... so far. Have not read all of it yet but great to see that someone remembers!

Great post Joe! You have to admire the imagination aviators (and promoters) had years ago. I couldn't help but reflect how today there might be more effort to stop a flight like this than there wold be to encourage it. The gas can transfer alone would have the local FSDO all over the place. I was fortunate to get to barnstorm with a helicopter in the '70s and we carried our fuel in the round tin five gallon gas cans in the back of a Chevy station wagon. When we needed fuel, we'd stop the rotor, leave the engine run, and dump three cans into the fuel spout (well removed from the exhaust). Its hard to believe staying aloft for 46 days. The fatigue had to be unreal!
