C 85 engine baffel question

Im getting ready to install engine baffels on my fresh C85-12 and have seen 2 very different style used.
Style 1 is very curved upward around the valve covers....
Style 2 is very straight along the valve covers.

On my last restoration I used the wag c85 baffel kit and it was of the curved type. But I have recently seen many C85's with the straight type along the valve covers.

I have not gathered pictures of both at this time and was hoping someone in the know would enlighten me.

The 85 uses the straight sides with a forward piece and the rear bulkhead. The 65 uses the one curved piece to the rear bulkhead. The area around the exhaust is different on the two styles. Now with that said, I've seen both styles installed on each engine and they appear to work. I have some templates made for the 85 baffle and I make them from dead soft aluminum. Some of W/A stuff is too hard and just doesn't go the distance.

Here is the baffels that were from wag for a C85 that I installed on my first C85. From what you say they are indeed for a A65. I have about 500 hours on them with no heating problems.My preference would be the correct baffels but I have no first hand experience with them. It is time to do something Im just not sure of what to do?? I like the idea of making my own as I was never inpressed with the overall quaility of the last set I purchased.

Best I can determine, the baffles that came with my Champ were originally from a C-150, trimmed to fit the Champ cowling. They work very well.

I have all of the templates but they are semi-finished at the engine side. After I get them all bent up I custom fit them to each engine. This is because the engine/cowl installations differ slightly. Bill has the staple machine to install the leather seal, if that's what you decide to use.

I have removed and pounded out flat all of my existing baffles on my c 85 champ engine. The fit was marginally good and I believe that I can sucessfully reproduce them. I also have a set of a65 baffles that were on my other c85 champ. My preference this time is to install new c85 style baffles on the new engine. I would like to borrow your templates for the c85 champ baffles so that I can compare everything and come up with the best set I can. I will pay shipping if needed. I will only need them for a short time. Thank You for the offer
