While using my Chiefs' service manual, I noticed it showed a Lewis L-11-43 propeller in one Exploded view of the head end. My airplane currently has a Sensenich wooden prop which was installed about 16 years ago. the logs don't reflect any rationale for the change and insofar as I know it may be the only prop change ever made. I went to the internet and found that the Lewis firm made props for many of the typical aircraft of the same era as mine was built. They include several Aeroncas, Taylorcraft, Luscombes and other familiar aircraft.
Does anyone know of an Aeronca which is still using a Lewis prop ? It seems like an interesting chapter in Aeronca history. How did the Lewis props perform as compared to successor hardware ? Were there Lewis climb, cruise and whatever models ?

The Lewis props work pretty well on planes with a little less drag, Luscombe, C-120 etc. Their performance is comparable with the metal props on these planes. I don't know of any Chiefs with a Lewis on, but it should perform as well as any other wood prop. I had a Fahlin on my KCA and it worked perfect, I built a copy of it for the Johnny Jones Chief.
