L-16
L-16
I've been tasked with assembling an L-16. Fuselage and Wings are covered, final paint on fuselage should be happening soon. After that I plan to install landing gear, and get engine installed so we can run to ensure all is ok with it. Then I reckon I'll start on flight control cables, interior, engine controls, (permanent install) fuel tank(s), instrument panel, then eventually the boot cowl/windshield ... not looking forward to that since I'll likely need help. Sheet metal work is not my forte. My main concern is I don't want to do something out of sequence due to inexperience. To a large degree I would assume many things are not very critical regarding when they're done as far as sequence goes, however I'm sure there are some items that MUST be done before (fill in the blank). If anyone has some sort of rough guide on the over all sequence, or at least some advice on specific issues they've encountered regarding something that can cause problems, or extra work, if done out of sequence. ANY advice is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Re: L-16
Welcome and glad to see another L-16 being brought back to life. Bill Chappel has worked on one or two or more in the past and frequents this forum. I'm sure he can share some wisdom as your project evolves.

Re: L-16
Glad to have you aboard.
I like to assemble the fuselage completely before I take it to the airport. Get all of your system components installed as well as the instrument panel. I like to plumb the engine with the boot cowl off and that is the last item to install be fore transport. Pay attention to the nose bowl. Many are too close to the propeller and not centered with the crankshaft C/L. This will affect how the lower cowl and side doors fit. A little time here will save you fitment problems down the road.

No problem! If I can be of any more help in your L16 project let know. There is a limited amount of information on these little airplanes, my guess is because they were spec'ed by the Army and delivered to the Air Force.
