McDowell starter

Thanks for the response Mike. I looked at the site before and it dosen,t give me the detail I need.
I was looking for information on how the starter was secured to the Continental engine and the size of the crank gear.
My starter is incomplete, and the items I have give no clues how the starter was secured.
I will need to make a crank gear and have access to an EDM if needed. I was told the crank gears for the tapered and flanged crankshafts differed. I,m looking for some added information on this starter before I start building the parts.

Paul: It looks like it bolts to the case. Now here's the problem. With the older cases, they had a nice flat spot near the seal that would give a good base for this. The later 65 cases did not have this and were more rounded at the snout. It may not work on these, as the patent is for 1940. Something worth checking out.

Thats the type of information I,m looking for. These starters were used on the 65,s and should be adaptable for each crankcase configuration.

Paul,

I have a complete unit but have never gotten around to installing it on my airplane. Leaning one week towards using it and the next week towards going with a B&C or Skytec starter and total loss battery.

Can give you some more detailed photos but am overseas on a flight now.
