I wanted to start a new post on this subject as my phone line connections are very slow, my computer keeps trying to load Ed's pictures and it takes forever. It's a very interesting subject and I hope the new ELT's work better than some of the other mandated items that the FAA has come up with over the years. I'm sure like everyone else they're just trying to do their jobs; but I remember spending the money to replace the venturi on my Cherokee and then having the AD rescinded or having a brand new transponder installed that met the specs for mode C and then having to cough up $300 because the mode C specs were changed (at least according to the manufacturer: either way, I had to pay).
Even now (as a retired teacher) I drive a school bus full of screaming kids on part time basis to pay for my flying habit (and my wife wonders why I can't hear).
Point is: I hope when the new ELT's are brought out, the price is reasonable for ordinary peope (like most of us) and they work as projected.........onward and upward
