Useable Fuel- 7AC w/C-65A

Anyone know how much useable fuel there is in the 13 gallon tank of the 7AC with the C-65A?

my 7bcm has a 13 gallon tank. To the best of my knowledge, its gravity feed from the tank (near the firewall) to the engine. I have always supposed that if I was dumb enough to fly it out, I would use pretty much all of it. I pay little attention to the fuel ga. Instead I rely on a wooden paint stick that I stick into the tank. (I've marked it off,"full" "half full" etc.)I never fly it more than 10 gallons or a little more.) Some years back I landed in a BORROWED money 201, it showed one quarter tank. Later, I tried to restart it to taxi to the pump....it was out....dry. Lucky break for me and a BIG lesson...hence the paint stick!

Agreed! I also use the stick method (wooden dowel, marked off at 4-6-8-10 gallons). I do usually fill the tank if I go any distance at all, but would be reluctant to go more than two hours before stopping for fuel......just in case . In other words: time rather than distance.

The useable is 13 gals, you can check the TC and also the factory W&B which is worked up showing no unusable fuel in the calulation.

Thanks to all.

I have a J3 type wire guage on the cap. I graduated it in 2 gallon increments (readable in level flight for accuracy) and want to use the 3 gallons remaining as my indicator of reserve for xcountry calculations. Just needed to know if that full three gallons is useable in the event of emergency.
