Weight & Balance info
Weight & Balance info
I am trying to get prepared for my sport pilot check ride and need to find some additonal weight and balance info for the Chief. All I have is a basic weight of the plane and drawing showing datum point.
I was hoping that maybe someone had some charts or other info that would be helpful.
Thanks,
Todd

Re: Weight & Balance info
Weight & Balance for these older aircraft need alittle research, take a look here for a few POH manuals made up by some pilots.mtw wrote:I am trying to get prepared for my sport pilot check ride and need to find some additonal weight and balance info for the Chief. One very important thing to remember here is that there was no POH for the Chief and Champ series aircraft. None what so ever from Aeronca. The Type Certificate Data Sheet information and weight and balance is all that you legally have to have with you, and the limits shown there on the airplane.
The info placed on the site that Mike gave you is excellent but its not APPROVED by the FAA, so personally I would not take it with me to ANY checkride. Unless you know the examiner VERY WELL I would not even mention the POH that someone spent the time to draw up and place on the internet.

Chris,
Yes, this is my first license. I do have prior experience in ultralights. Which do you like better, the Champ or Chief?

I have a Champ and I love it. I own a 172 and the Champ and I absolutely love the tandem seating. Makes me feel like Walter Mitty.
The view of being able to see out both sides equally, makes flying it a better experience for me. As the others say...try it on and see which one you like. My only gripe with the older side by side planes....you better be good friends with your passenger. They are very tight for two unless you are small in stature. I had a 150 as my first plane and that is what I didn't like about it. Just hope the other person has good hygene.
Oh, I am not a big guy and it was tight for me and an instructor. My 2 cents.

I'm taking my PP written on Friday and my check ride shortly after in the 7FC. Is there a POH for a 57 Tri-Traveler?joea wrote:One very important thing to remember here is that there was no POH for the Chief and Champ series aircraft. None what so ever from Aeronca.
