Many people I bet have flow over the published Chief 1,250 gross weight. I'm sure this has been going on for decades.
I was just thinking that IF the 50 lb increase could be accomplished on a Chief through the no bounce gear, it would help make it legal to fly at 1,300lbs which I'm sure OTHER people have done "safely" many times since 1946!
I bet you could fairly easily get a 337 for the installation. I just think that in order to raise the gross weight, you'd have to go through the full blown STC process which is nearly prohibitively expensive.
I suppose if I have $100,000 to spare I might try to get this STC approved. But since that is not in my reality. I guess I'll have to live with the way it has always been.
I sure bet any person who did go through the STC would sell quite a few of them. Especially if they got a 70 pound increase to 1,320 pound gross to maintain LSA. How many would they have to sell to break even? I don't know. But I'm sure there are a lot of Chief owners who would like to have an additional 50 to 70 pounds of useful load while still keeping LSA eligibility.
I know I would be in line for one!

About the only time the C150, especially the one with the long range tanks, has ever been flown at or below gross with 2 persons aboard, has been during a check ride. Same with the Ercoupe 415C. Not encouraging it....but know full well that has been the practice for many, many years.
