engine panel moved to PILOTS instrument panel.
Has anyone out there have any data/thoughts on moving magneto switch, carb heat cable, and fuel shut off to the instrument panel area where it's at a normal position for the PILOT to operate? I recently bought a 7AC Champ with the carb heat and mag switch (toggle switch's) on the instrument panel, "I like em there" I am considering moving the fuel shut off up where I can see and reach it with ease, does anyone have a champ set up like this? thoughts/advice. thanks

My 7CCM has everything on the front instrument panel. It was like that when I purchased it and I kept it there after recovering the fuselage and replacing the instrument panel.

Was there anything put in the log books about the engine panel moved to the instrument panel? my thinking is these old airplanes still under CAR 4a, but ya gotta be careful what you do. thanks

I'm sure you could do it, and have seen some aircraft with this modification. You would need to placard this as a "Front Seat Solo" only. Adding a operational limitation placard to the aircraft is something you would need to ask a DAR.

Paul, the champ was already placarded "Solo front seat only" I'm going to move the fuel shutoff to the front and make an entry to that effect in the engine log, I've discussed this with a couple AI's I know, and they seem ok with it. I know there are some Champs out there with the engine panel up front like most airplanes of that vintage, and thought I'd toss it out to see what thoughts there were on the mod. thanks, Jack

Jack,
That would be the perfect thing to do. Carl and I walked down the rows of Aeroncas at Middletown and I told him they all had to meet the same type design. He said, "but they're all different". So it comes down to you and your inspector, find the middle ground and keep flying.

The carb heat and A7 ignition switch on front instrument panel left side add-on, and I left the fuel shut off where it was, log book entry, works for me. Jack
