Re: Strut Rebuilding
I'ver done some research on my struts and I'm confident that I can rebuild them just fine myself thanks to John Baker's web page and a couple others. I have one mystery though. My LH and RH oleo strut outer tubes, which are of course part of the triangular shaped case-frame, are of different lengths...

Strut Rebuilding
Greetings, My '46 Chief oleo struts are a bit spongy, wont hold fluid long and I know its time for a rebuild. I'm an A&P and have rebuilt Cessna nose struts but have never done an Aeronca and was wondering if anyone here has done this and how difficult it is?? Unfortunately I have no documentati...

Re: wooden wing rib question
WOW! That really is beautiful work James! Thanks much for posting the pic as this is exactly what I was looking for. Looks like the wooden reinforcement on mine at the aft end of the rib must have separated from the aluminum which apparently has been bent. Hopefully i won't have to change the entire...

wooden wing rib question
on my '46 chief, the aft 8 in or so of the farthest outboard LH wing rib appears to be either loose or broken off. Noticed the fabric a little loose and wrinkled in that area and wiggled it around and you can tell its not firnly attached. This is the rib that sits next to the outboard edge of the ai...

Re: Goodyear Brake parts
Well I got bold and JB welded my clips in place. Was a little tricky to get the brake disk in place behind all 4 clips but not too bad with 3 smaller screwdrivers. So far with a lot of taxiing around to test it and one flight the brake works great and staying firmly in place. Thanks for all the sugg...

Goodyear Brake parts
Hi folks, On my '46 chief on the RH side, it appears like the inside of the wheel half or possibly the brake disc itself is worn because 2 of the 4 brake clips will not stay in place and fall right out as son as I move the plane. The remaining two clips seem to be holding with adequate tension. I am...

A65 oil pump losing prime
Had not flown my '46 chief for about a month and when I fired it up, no oil pressure. I got it back by pumping a few ounces of oil into the oil pressure guage hose and after that it came right back up and was OK for subsequent flights. I have experienced this in the past after changing oil and clean...

Re: Battery Box and Battery
Well I guess a starter would be nice but my A65 doesn't have the capability of that and actually I kind of enjoy the hand propping and I even hand propped my C172 the other day just to see if I could do it and it caught on the second push! I have surplus avionics laying around and the capability of ...

Battery Box and Battery
Hi Ya'll, Would like to add a radio, GPS and possibly transponder to my chief which means a battery mounted somewhere on the floor but I want a smaller battery than a standard aircraft 25. Does anyone know a source for a smaller battery box made especially for aircraft applications? Spruce or wag-ae...

RH brakes on a '46 Chief 11AC
Is there a conversion kit/STC available for adding brakes to the right side of a '46 11AC? I'd be willing to keep the Goodyear mechanical brakes and/or heel pedals but really would like to have brakes on the right so I can feel comfortable giving dual. Thanks!

Glove Box
I'm a newbie and recently became the owner of a '46 Chief 11AC and will probably have a lot of questions for you all but the first is about a glovebox. My plane does not have one but instead has a blank piece of sheet aluminum covering the entire botton of the panel. In looking and feeling behind th...
