Thanks for the feedback. I think it will be a bugger to get at as it is sandwhiched between the starter/Generator and the two mags. The engine is C85 with 0200 components STC. This is an awsome engine! GREAT tip on the reverse thread. It looks like in the past someone has worked it over with a vise ...

Oil leaking thru firewall on or in Tachometer cable

We have a problem with oil leaking on the floorboards of our L-16. It appears to be coming thru the firewall and dripping from the Tach cable. Anyone else had this problem and how do we fix it?
thanks

prop is MCcauley CM7142. It was a CM7144 but found paperwork where it was repitched a few years ago.

Hopefully get it on skis soon and get a chance to fly the Brainerd lakes area...

I will post prop information when I get back, going to be out of the country for a couple weeks. Sorry I don't recall specs offhand.

Thanks for the photo Mike! I think I will try something similar.

Mike, If you could post a pic of your "prototype" with the hinges that would be great. It appears like the baffle shown in Pete gavins Photos would be fairly easy to make, but maybe yours is better :) As far as performances stats, I need to fly a few more hours until firmer numbers can be ...

C-85 with 0200 STC , Cool Oil Temp

I have about 5 hours on newly built up C-85/0200 conversion, so far it is a noticeably different animal. Take off roll is definently shorter, climb seems better etc. The only issue so far is getting the oil temp up to around the magical 180 degrees. To this point, the oil cooler cover (under the pro...

Big chief, If you get down to the Brainerd area, stop in at my dads private strip. its on the south east end of Gull Lake, directly east of the dam. Thats where our L-16 has been hangared for the last 30 years. His strip is 2000 feet with trees on both ends, but is still easy to get in and out of. N...

couple more questions on the plastic bottoms: -How thick of UHMW? -Do you typically go 1" wider and longer then the existing metal bottoms? -I am assuming they get fastened to the existing metal bottoms? -Whats the best method of fastening? from top? bottom? -What do you do for a skeg? I can ge...

Thanks for information. I will give an update on how the Engine performs after the overhaul is complete. Should be ready to go later this week. Meanwhile I can be getting the ski's out of storage and dusting them to see what they need... If existing metal bottoms appear to be in good shape will they...

federal 1500 skis/new bungees

Currently have the L-16 in for Overhaul, going with c/85-0200 crank etc STC. Once it is flying again, thinking about putting the federal 1500 skis back on that have been in storage for 30 years. Does anyone know the best place to get plastic bottoms, new bushings, bungees etc needed to get back on s...

Ron,

curious about the counterweight that you added to bring your wheel into balance... How did you determine that this was the problem? How did you know when you had added enough weight? did you actually have way to spin balance test it? (Other then going out and trying it)

Thanks
Jon

Also found that the vertical straightness of the wheel was out wack due to the main leaf spring being twisted. I am currently making a tapered shim to fit on top of the leaf spring to bring in into plumb. I am thinking this was contributing to the problem also. We shall see...

one cylinder was replaced last fall as the compression on that cylinder went south. Could it be using oil as it still seating the rings on that cylinder? As far as I know, none of the cylinders are chromed.

thanks for the picture. I found that the tire has a large flat spot that is causing a severe vibration and out of balance situation. Will be putting a new tire on with new compression springs to see if the problem goes away.
