Re: Amphib's for the Champ/Chief

Are these certified on the Champ/Chief? Last I heard it was only J3's and Taylorcrafts.

I too have the ceramic nickel cylinders from ECI. There's about 175 hours on the engine (over the past 3 years) and the compression checks have always been 80 on all cylinders. There's a cylinder head temperature probe in the rear right cylinder and I typically see about 350 degrees. Doesn't seem t...

lift strut vibration

Does anyone see vibration on the left lift struts when at high AOA / high RPM?

I'm thinking this is due to the prop wash drumming on the underside of the left wing.

How about loose fabric / loose drag wire?

How serious an issue is delamination? I've seen a wing 'condemned' because of this. I've always felt that this wasn't necessarily a severe issue (about 4 inches long). Can delaminations be repaired? Also, my thinking is that laminated spars are stronger than the solid spars. Does anyone have any inf...

How much farther does the 37BY electrode protrude into the combustion chamber than the 40E?

I'm contemplating clearance issues when C85 pistons are used in an O200.

Need EDO 1400 float fittings for a Chief

Need a pair of rear fuselage float fittings for an Aeronca Chief. If anyone know of any for sale (or where I could find them) please let me know.

thanks

I'd go with a 40 pitch if you're on floats.

Installed Landshorter VGs on my 11CC floatplane (at about 6% of wing chord). Didn't notice much difference on takeoff (maybe slightly be easier to lift a float). On approach the plane is noticeably more stable. Very solid feeling at low speeds and wings aren't mushy. Airplane 'floats' longer. Power-...

I just had an O200 installation approved on my 11CCX Chief (Canada Owner-Maintenance) ... I used the conical inserts. As Paul indicates, the only reason I used them was to avoid cowling / fit issues. The O200 ended up in exactly the same place as the original C85-8F. Used Wagner's STC as the basis f...

These conical inserts / bushings are actually approved parts for Luscombes.

Field approval?

Don't even bother with the 65HP.

85 HP would be bare minimum.

I'd go with a 90 or 115 Lycoming.

The 90 will be a noticeable improvement over the 85.

Make sure you use the right prop.

Jon, would you mind sharing static RPM numbers before and after the conversion (also what prop you're using)?

There are alot of us out here curious about the performance improvement that the O200 crank STC gets you.
